TACLOBAN CITY—The provincial government of Eastern Samar planned to disburse at least P6 million for financial aid to residents who had been infected with COVID-19 and families of those who died of the disease.
The financial aid program would give P5,000 each to residents who tested positive for coronavirus and P10,000 each to families of those who died of the disease caused by SARS Cov2.
The financial aid was the provincial government’s way of providing relief to residents directly hit by the pandemic and those who lost family members and loved ones to the disease, according to Gov. Ben Evardone.
The provincial social welfare development office and the provincial health office are preparing a list more than 1,000 beneficiaries from different towns.
Officials said the release of the aid will start as soon as the list had been drawn up.
The province has 1,181 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started in March 2020. At least 21 of them have died. At P5,000 per infected person, the amount that would be needed would be about P5.9 million. To deliver P10,000 each to families of those who died, more than P200,000 would be needed.
