MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao may enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within the next 24 to 48 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Sunday.
In a livestreamed 4 a.m. weather forecast, Pagasa weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin said the LPA was last spotted 1,590 east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, will not yet affect the country’s weather.

Bulquerin said northeast monsoon or “amihan” is affecting Northern and Central Luzon while the tail-end of a frontal system will bring light rains to the eastern section of Southern Luzon and the Visayas regions.
Cloudy skies and light rains are expected in the Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula and the provinces of Palawan, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate.
Bulquerin added that light rains can be expected in the Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, the rest of the Bicol region, Aurora and Quezon.
Fair weather is expected in Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon on Valentine’s Day.
For the rest of the country, localized thunderstorms and scattered rain showers will persist, with possible flash floods and landslides.
