Filipino recovers from UK variant

The recent swab test of the 35-year-old patient, who was infected with the UK variant of the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19), came out negative, the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (Cesu) said on Friday.

Dr. Rolly Cruz, the Cesu chief, said the male patient would be discharged as soon as his symptoms—a mild cough and cold—subside.

The patient, a former overseas Filipino worker from Cebu, was the eighth case of COVID-19 with the more contagious variant. He tested positive for the virus on Jan. 18 and was placed in isolation in a Manila hotel.

Four days later, his manpower agency transferred him to an apartment in Riverside, Barangay Commonwealth in Quezon City through Grab.

The city government and the barangay were not informed of the transfer. He was later transferred to one of the city’s quarantine on Thursday. —Nikka G. Valenzuela
