With no LPA and weaker amihan, expect fair weather this weekend

Fair weather expected over the weekend as Amihan weakens — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — A fair weather can be expected in most parts of the country this weekend as the northeast monsoon temporarily weakens and no low pressure area (LPA) was seen near the country, the state weather bureau said on Friday afternoon.

Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), however, said that they are monitoring an LPA still outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), currently 1,665 kilometers east of Mindanao.

Pagasa expected this LPA to enter PAR by Tuesday, affecting weather systems in Visayas and Mindanao.  State meteorologists reminded the public though to stay tuned to Pagasa’s updates as changes may happen with the circulation still above waters.

But for Saturday, no rains except for isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected with a weaker northeast monsoon or amihan.  Weather may warm up a bit in Luzon, as Baguio City sees temperatures of 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, Tuguegarao and Tagaytay with 22 to 28 degrees, Laoag with 22 to 27 degrees, while Metro Manila and Legazpi may feel something around 25 to 32 degrees.

Despite the amihan’s weakening, Pagasa showed in its three-day weather forecast that temperatures are expected to come down slightly again by next week, as Baguio temperatures may drop to 13 to 23 degrees Celsius starting Monday, while Metro Manila may have 23 to 30 degrees on the same day.

Meanwhile, warm and humid weather would also prevail over Visayas and Mindanao for Saturday although isolated thunderstorms may still occur by afternoon and night.

Tacloban and Iloilo may register temperatures between 25 to 31 degrees Celsius, Cebu with 24 to 31 degrees, Davao and Zamboanga with 24 to 33 degrees, and Cagayan de Oro with 22 to 30 degrees.

With the weaker amihan, all gale warnings have been lifted although sea condition around Luzon and Visayas would remain moderate.  Visayas and Mindanao’s inland seas, from Cebu to Sulu will be slight to moderate except when thunderstorm activity is present.
