LUCENA CITY –– Police in Cavite province have arrested 159 suspected criminals and law violators, 41 of them drug suspects, in synchronized operations on Feb. 10 and 11.
Colonel Marlon Santos, Cavite police chief, said in a report that the 41 alleged drug pushers were collared in 22 buy-bust operations in the cities of Dasmariñas, General Trias, Trece Martires, Tagaytay, and Bacoor, and the towns of Rosario, Naic, Gen. Mariano Alvarez, Noveleta, Indang, Alfonso, Magallanes, Carmona, and Ternate.
Authorities seized 115 plastic sachets of shabu (crystal meth), an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be from drug sales, and drug paraphernalia.
The volume and street value of the confiscated illegal drugs were not specified in the daily reports posted by the Cavite police public information office on its Facebook page.
Also arrested in the two-day operations were six wanted individuals covered by arrest warrants. Four other individuals were arrested for minor offenses.
At least 107 persons were taken into custody for violating COVID-19 health protocols in different parts of the province. They were found either not wearing face masks or violating the local curfew.
Meanwhile, the Cavite police received 40 new “Toyota Wigo” patrol cars from the provincial government on Feb. 10.
They also received 250 body cameras to record police operations and 250 breathalyzers to test the alcohol level of motorists.
“Patrol cars will strengthen the police capabilities and over-all anti-criminality campaigns of the PNP; body-worn cameras will be useful to observe the legality and transparency of police operation; and breathalyzers will help determine the amount of alcoholic for law violators,” Santos said in a statement.
Santos said the patrol cars “should always be deployed on major thoroughfares and must be visible on streets.”
Santos thanked Gov. Jonvic Remulla for his generosity and continuous support to Cavite police.
