MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has confiscated around P15 million worth of cigarettes, medicines and other goods in a storage facility in Paco, Manila after its caretakers failed to present necessary documents for the items.

According to a statement from BOC on Thursday, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service and Enforcement and Security Service and Manila International Container Port, in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard, confiscated the goods on February 4.

BOC said caretakers of the storage facility failed to present documents for the products during the inspection made by the composite team.

According to BOC, MICP personnel found reams of cigarettes, food items, medicines, liquor, cell phones, cell phone accessories and power banks from the storage facility.

Further inventory and investigation are underway for the possible filing of charges for violation of Section 1400 of the Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, according to the bureau.

The said section of the law deals with the misdeclaration, misclassification, and undervaluation in goods declaration.
