MANILA, Philippines — Former congressman and Olongapo mayor James “Bong” Gordon Jr. has passed away.
This was confirmed by his brother Senator Richard Gordon during the Senate’s plenary session Tuesday.
“He was a long-serving mayor of Olongapo, a stalwart volunteer during the Pinatubo eruption,” the senator said.
Gordon was the mayor of Olongapo City from 2004 to 2013. He also served as the first district representative of Zambales from 1995 to 2004.
During the session, Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri expressed the chamber’s deepest condolences to the Gordon family for the passing of the former lawmaker.
“We would just like to give our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family of Senator Richard Gordon for the passing of his dear brother,” Zubiri said.
“He was a very, very good friend to us, many of us, he was a classmate of us in Congress,” he added.
