THE Red Team crushed Green, 89-80 while White nipped the undermanned Blue, 78-75, Thursday night at the start of the Cebu Customs Collector’s hoop dubbed as the 3rd Major Alfonso Abbariao Cup, Biggest Loser-2012 Inter-color basketball tournament at the Basak, San Nicolas gym.
In the first game, Red took single-digit leads in the first half before exploding with a huge, 26-11 run in the third to pull away by 27 points, 71-48 entering the final quarter.
However, Green leaned on triggerman Jingjing Rama, Noel Medalle and Ting Bacalla in outscoring Red, 32-18 in the fourth but still failed to snatch the win as it fell by nine points.
Kern Sesante and Bingo Matugas led Red with 29 and 19 points, respectively, while Noel Medalle and Jingjing Rama paced Green with a night-high 30 and 29 points, respectively.
In the other game, White and Blue engaged in an air-tight battle the entire ballgame which featured several deadlocks and lead changes before White prevailed by three points.
Boodie Monteño powered White with a game-high 21 points while Kenneth Maningo added 19 markers. Tata Laborte and Mamasao Capalan paced the losing Blue with 28 and 17 points, respectively.
