Ex-village chief slain in Catanduanes shooting incident

LEGAZPI CITY –– A former village chief was gunned down by a still unidentified assailant in San Andres town in Catanduanes province on Monday night.

Lieutenant Marissa Macabeo, San Andres police chief, said in a report that Lea Vallespin, 45, was found lying on the roadside beside her motorcycle in Barangay Bislig around 6 p.m.

Vallespin, a resident of Barangay Asgad, is a messenger/collector of a private hospital in Virac town.

Residents thought that Vallespin met a road accident but when they tried to help her, they discovered bullet wounds on her body and empty shells in the area, a report said.

She was taken to a hospital but died on the way.

Authorities recovered seven empty shells and two slugs of unknown caliber of firearms.

Macabeo said they had yet to determine the motive of the killing.
