Magnitude 5.0 earthquake shakes Occidental Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck the waters off Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The earthquake struck at 7:24 a.m. at 58 kilometers southwest of San Jose town.

The tremor was of tectonic origin, and had a 17-kilometer depth of focus.

While no damage was expected from the earthquake, state seismologists warned residents that aftershocks may occur.

No damage was reported in the affected area.
