MANILA, Philippines — The number of active Covid-19 cases in the country has returned to over 27,000 as the Department of Health (DOH) reported 1,690 new coronavirus infections on Monday.
DOH said that of the total 538,995 cases to date, 27,992 were tagged as active patients. It was on January 31 when Covid-19 active cases hit 27,318.
Meanwhile, 23 more have recovered from the respiratory illness bringing the nationwide tally of survivors to 499,772. The Covid-19 death toll was now at 11,231, including the 52 latest fatalities.
The majority of patients or 88.5 percent were patients with mild symptoms, according to DOH, as 5.4 percent were asymptomatic or those that did not manifest any symptoms at all. On the other hand, 2.7 percent of the total active cases had shown severe symptoms as 2.8 percent were in critical condition, DOH added.
DOH said 1,117 of the new cases reported Monday were from results of 18,322 tests transmitted on Sunday.
