5.1-magnitude earthquake rattles parts of Southern Luzon, NCR

MANILA, Philippines —A magnitude 5.1 earthquake rocked Camarines Norte, Bulacan, Metro Manila, and other parts of Southern Luzon Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In an initial earthquake bulletin, state seismologists said the tremor struck 24 kilometers (kms) northeast of TInaga Island in Vinzons,  Camarines Norte at 6 a.m.

Phivolcs said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 1 km.

The quake was felt as Intensity IV in Capalonga and Jose Panganiban in Camarines Norte and Intensity III in Guinayangan, Quezon.

The quake was recorded as Intensity II in Goa and Naga City, Camarines Sur and Calauag, Quezon and Intensity I in Cainta, Rizal; Marikina City and Pasig City, Metro Manila; and San Rafael, Bulacan.

Aftershocks are expected, warned Phivolcs.
