MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Marikina City who may experience adverse side effects of the COVID-19 vaccine will not have to worry about their medical expenses and funds for their livelihood, after the city government set aside P5 million as indemnity fund, Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said on Thursday.
Teodoro told the Inquirer that there would be no maximum amount that would be provided for each person since expenses would depend on a patient’s medical condition.
The P5-million indemnity fund was sourced from grants and donations received by the Office of the City Mayor, so it will not be deducted from Marikina’s P82.7-million fund for vaccine procurement, Teodoro said.
If patients experience adverse side effects, they may be taken to either of two nearby hospitals while ambulances are stationed in different areas.
On Wednesday, Teodoro announced that the city would be able to inoculate around 10,000 eligible residents per day through its megavaccine facility located at the Marikina Sports Complex in Barangay Santa Elena.
