BACOLOD CITY –– Instead of buying COVID-19 vaccines, governors were urged to also focus on other “consumables” needed for the mass vaccination drive.
According to Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, members of the League of Governors of the Philippines were advised to prepare the needles, syringes, cotton buds, and alcohol as well as hire more vaccinators.
In their Zoom meeting with Secretary Carlito Galvez, the country’s vaccine czar, Lacson said they were assured that the national government would take care of the vaccines needed for 70 percent of the country’s population.
Because of Galvez’s assurance, Lacson said the provincial government would not buy additional vaccines on top of the 100,000 doses from AstraZeneca that it ordered.
“The 100,000 doses for the Negros Occidental frontliners will be more than enough,” he said.
