PH Covid-19 cases now 531,699 with additional 1,590 infections

MANILA, Philippines — The total number of coronavirus infection in the country rose to 531,699 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported additional 1,590 cases on Thursday.

According to the latest case bulletin from the DOH, the total count now includes 32,775 active cases.

There were also additional 249 recoveries, pushing the number of patients who have recovered from the disease to 487,927.

Another 55 deaths were added to the count, which puts the Covid-19 death toll in the country to 10,997 fatalities.

According to DOH, active cases represent 6.2 percent of the total number of cases, while the recoveries and deaths represent 91.8 percent and 2.07 percent of the tally, respectively.

Of the active cases, 88.9 percent are mild, 5.9 percent are asymptomatic, 2.4 percent are critical, 2.3 percent are severe, and 0.53 percent are moderate.

The latest figures do not include data from two laboratories that were not able to submit on time.

Meanwhile, the DOH said nine duplicates, including two recoveries, were removed from the total case count. Forty-one cases that were previously tagged as recovered were also reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The country reported on January 30 last year its first Covid-19 case from a Chinese woman who arrived from Wuhan City, China, where the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the disease was believed to have emerged in late 2019.

The DOH has so far confirmed 17 cases of the more transmissible B117 variant of SARS-CoV-2 that was first detected in the United Kingdom.

Malacañang earlier said Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batangas province, Tacloban City, Davao City, Davao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Iligan City will be under general community quarantine (GCQ) until the end of February, as government authorities continue to monitor the spread of the virus.

Other areas not mentioned will be under the less restrictive modified GCQ for the same period.
