MANILA, Philippines — Expect the price of mackerel scad, more popularly known as galunggong, to go down in Metro Manila in the coming weeks due to a projected hike in supply after the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources opened fishing in Palawan. About 95 percent of galunggong shipments at the Navotas port come from the province. Currently, the fish variant sells for as high as P280 and P260 per kilo for local and imported, respectively, with the lowest price pegged at P240 a kilo. —KARL R. OCAMPO
