MANILA, Philippines — Voter registration for the 2022 elections will now be conducted on Saturdays, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon announced Wednesday.

In a tweet, Guanzon noted that the Saturday schedule will allow those working from Monday to Friday to register for the upcoming national polls.

“YES Saturday registration @COMELEC will start in Feb. Guys, this was your request those turning 18 and those working M-F. So no excuses, register na!” she said.

Comelec earlier said it was mulling the addition of weekends to the voter registration schedule in order to boost the number of voter applications.

As of Monday, only about 1.3 million voter registrations have been received by the poll body, according to Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez.

Comelec is targeting to have around 4 million new voters for the 2022 elections.
