MANILA, Philippines — The Marikina City Mega Vaccination Facility is capable of accommodating 10,000 people daily, Mayor Marcelino Teodoro said Wednesday.
According to Teodoro, the amenity, located at the Marikina Sports Complex that is just across the city hall, will have 10 vaccination stations to enable faster administration of vaccines.
“We will open the Marikina City Mega Vaccination Facility that can administer Covid-19 vaccine to around 10, 000 people per day,” he said during the visit of the Coordinated Operations to Defeat Epidemic (CODE) team in the city to check the local government’s readiness for the mass vaccination program.
“We can vaccinate 10, 000 people in a day because we have 10 vaccination stations at our mega vaccination facility here in the Marikina Sports Complex,” he added.
Teodoro also said vaccines that mostly need low or below zero degree Celsius temperatures for maximum effectivity would not be spoiled because the cold chain facility is just 100 meters away from the sports complex.
The mayor likewise detailed the process that the city would follow in its immunization drive. First, he said, patients will undergo screening to determine if they eligible recipients of the Covid-19 vaccine. Then, patients will undergo further health checkups to ensure they are healthy and have no co-morbidities that may endanger their condition if given the jabs.
After vaccination, patients will be observed for a while before allowed to go home, Teodoro said.
Teodoro assured the public that a care monitoring amenity and an infirmary will also be available within the Marikina City Mega Vaccination Facility in case adverse reactions are observed on a vaccine recipient.
He also noted that the vaccination center is surrounded by several hospitals in Marikina.
“Ang isa pang kakaiba rito, mayroon tayong care monitoring facility or infirmary kung sakaling may adverse reaction. Pwede doon gawin yung initial medical treatment. At itong vaccination center na ito ay 100 meter lamang ang layo sa pinaka malapit na hospital,” he said.
(The difference here is that we have a care monitoring facility or infirmary which can attend to possible cases of adverse reaction. Initial medical treatments can be done there. And also, the vaccination center is just 100 meters away from the nearest hospital.)
“Binibigyan nating ng halaga iyon, para sa ganun, kung may adverse effect, mapangalagaan natin yung taong babakunahan,” he explained.
(We will give after-care a high value so that if there are incidents of adverse effects, we can care for the person vaccinated.)
To date, the city has set aside an indemnification fund worth P5 million for individuals who may experience adverse effects from the Covid-19 vaccine.
