More cold days ahead for dwellers in northern Luzon, eastern part of PH

MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon or amihan will continue to bring cold weather and light rains over a vast portion of the country, especially in North Luzon and eastern parts of the country like the Bicol Region and Eastern Visayas.

Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) indicated that amihan’s surge remains prevalent and might not slow down anytime soon.

From Tuesday night to Wednesday, light rains can be expected in the above-mentioned regions plus Cagayan Valley, and the provinces of Kalinga, Apayao, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and Quezon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have generally fair weather, but scattered light rains may occur in the afternoon and night, due to isolated rain showers, according to the weather agency.

With the northeast monsoon being the current dominant weather system, Pagasa does not anticipate any low-pressure area or tropical cyclones to form over the Pacific Ocean or near the Philippine area of responsibility for the rest of the week.

Low temperatures will still be felt over Luzon especially the northern provinces. Pagasa said Tuguegarao will experience around 19 to 25 degrees Celsius climate while Laoag and Baguio will feel it at 18 to 29 degrees Celsius and 11 to 23 degrees Celcius, respectively.

Metro Manila will be colder than usual with temperatures likely hitting 22 to 30 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, while Legazpi will have it at 24 to 29 degrees Celsius, and Puerto Princesa at 24 to 31 degrees Celsius.

Pagasa said Visayas and Mindanao will also be slightly cooler as Tacloban can expect temperatures of around 24 to 29 degrees Celsius; Cebu and Davao, 24 to 30 degrees Celsius; Iloilo, 25 to 29 degrees Celsius; and Cagayan de Oro, 23 to 29 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, the weather bureau kept its gale warning over the whole northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon – from the waters of Ilocos Norte to Babuyan Islands in Cagayan Valley, down to Quezon province and the Bicol Region.

Pagasa said fisherfolk are not allowed to set sail due to rough to very rough sea conditions, as waves are expected to reach as high as 2.8 meters to 4.5 meters.
