10 WWII bombs, 1 grenade recovered in Laguna

MANILA, Philippines—Ten vintage bombs  and one hand grenade were recovered Thursday morning from a police outpost formerly occupied by village watchmen in Laguna province, a Philippine National Police spokesman said Friday.

Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said that the 10 pieces of 75 millimeter mortar projectiles and hand grenade were recovered at the lobby of the Cabuyao Municipal Police station located at Southhill Subdivision, Barangay Niugan, Cabuyao, Laguna around 8:20 a.m. Thursday.

He said that initial investigation revealed that the recovered items were stockpiled in the area by the village watchmen who occupied the compound before it was taken over by local police officials.

Recovered ordnance are now under the custody of Calabarzon police for proper disposal, Cruz Jr. said.

Last January 25, four people died, including two policemen, and eight others were wounded after a vintage bomb being dismantled by police in an authorized location suddenly exploded in Taguig City.
