Prosecution consistently presenting ‘incompetent’ witnesses

MANILA, Philippines—The prosecution panel was consistently doing one thing, according to defense counsel Rico Paolo Quicho, and that is presenting “incompetent” witnesses.

At a press briefing after day 11 of the impeachment trial against Chief Justice Renato Corona, Quicho said that “there is a pattern of presenting an incompetent witness” in the duration of the third week of the trial.

He was pertaining to Greg Gregonia of the Burgundy Realty Corporation and Ava Venus Mejia of Filinvest Alabang Inc., who after an hour and 45 minutes of questioning, said that they had no personal knowledge of the documents being presented.

“Even the senator-judges noticed that time was being wasted. If there was a mature deliberation [by the 188 representatives who signed the complaint], we would not have been in this situation. Unfortunately, we are expecting too much from them,” he said.
