Covid-19 hits 1,658 more in PH pushing total active cases to 28,891

MANILA, Philippines — An additional 1,658 new Covid-19 patients recorded on Monday brought the total nationwide active cases to 28,891, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

DOH’s Covid-19 bulletin also showed that 27 more recovered from the disease, driving the number of recovered patients to 487,574, as 58 others failed to survive, thus, increasing the country’s death toll to 10,807.

All in all, the Philippines now has 527,272 cases of Covid-19, a respiratory ailment caused by SARS-CoV-2, the new coronavirus strain that originated from China’s Wuhan City in Hubei province.

Most of the patients with active infections or 88.5 percent experience only mild symptoms, according to DOH, while 5.3 percent were asymptomatic. Meanwhile, 2.7 percent of the active cases manifest severe symptoms while 3.6 percent were in critical condition, DOH added.

The health agency also said that 1,046 of the new cases reported Monday came from the 23,521 Covid-19 tests done on Sunday, January 31.
