Doctor dies from COVID-19 in Tacloban; Leyte high school on lockdown

TACLOBAN CITY –– A 40-year-old physician in Eastern Visayas succumbed to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in a private hospital here on Sunday, Jan. 31.

He was the second medical practitioner from the region to die of COVID-19.

As of Monday, the number of fatalities in the region reached 180.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported 54 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of infections in the region to 14,081.

A lockdown was imposed in the Leyte National High School on Monday after one of its teachers tested positive for the deadly virus.

The distribution and retrieval of modules were temporarily canceled.
