SAN ANTONIO, Zambales –– The province on Sunday registered 58 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infections that were traced to a construction site, officials said.
Dr. Noel Bueno, provincial health director, said the new infections were the highest single-day record in the province since the pandemic began.
Bueno said the patients are all construction workers, aged 18-68, and assigned to the St. Pio Medical Center in Iba town.
“The number is higher than the outbreak in Masinloc power plant last August with 45 cases on a single day,” Bueno told the Inquirer.
Bueno said the patients were exposed to their two fellow workers who first contracted the virus on Jan. 22. The construction site was temporarily closed.
The province’s active COVID-19 cases have already ballooned to 115.
Zambales has so far recorded a total of 895 COVID-19 cases, with 761 recoveries and 18 deaths.
