LUCENA CITY –– With the death of a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patient in this city on Sunday, Quezon recorded 36 fatalities in January amid the declining number of validated new virus carriers in the province.
The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), in its 5 p.m. bulletin on Sunday, Jan. 31, reported that the province logged a total of 224 COVID-19 fatalities, 36 of them recorded into the first month of 2021.
The IPHO records showed that 25 COVID-19 patients died in December, 53 in November, and 42 in October.
The records also indicated a downward trend of new COVID-19 cases in the province for the past four months.
From Jan. 1 to 31, a total of 696 COVID-19 cases were recorded. In December, the province logged 845 cases, in November 1,612, and in October 1,717.
Quezon, which remains on modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), logged a total of 6,911 COVID-19 cases and 6,344 recoveries since the pandemic began in March last year. At least 343 people in the province are still sick with COVID-19.
Lucena City, the provincial capital, recorded 1,527 COVID-19 cases, 1,421 recoveries, and 55 fatalities, the highest in the province.
As of Jan. 31, the city has 53 active virus carriers. The highest daily tally of active cases in the City was 279 on Oct. 21.
The city will also remain under the more relaxed MGCQ status until Feb. 28.
