Batangas Covid-19 watch: 30 new cases logged, total count jumps to 12,370

LUCENA CITY — The province of Batangas, which remains under the general community quarantine (GCQ) for the entire month of February, logged an additional 30 coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases on Saturday.

The province’s Public Information Office (PIO) on Saturday announced on social media that a total of 12,370 Covid-19 cases have so far been recorded since the pandemic erupted in early March last year.

A total of 11,636 patients have so far recovered , 356 cases remain active while 378 patients have died.

Batangas City has the most number of cases with 2,429 but Lipa City has the most number of active cases with 49 followed by Batangas City, 44.

Authorities reminded the public to strictly follow the minimum health and safety protocol like constant washing of hands, wearing of face mask, face shield and observed safe physical distancing.

The province has also listed 656 active suspect and 12 probable cases.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), a person is considered a suspected carrier if he or she shows symptoms like fever, cough, or sore throat two weeks after contact with an infected person or persons or had traveled to a place where there is a case of infection.

Those with symptoms but belong to what is considered as a vulnerable segment of the population — elderly, those with preexisting health conditions, pregnant women, and health care workers — are also considered as coronavirus suspects.

An individual is a probable case if his/her COVID-19 results are inconclusive, and he/she has been tested in an unofficial laboratory.
