NAGUILIAN, ISABELA — Hampered by the pandemic, the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Isabela has accelerated its tax collection among wholesalers, large distributors of goods, contractors, hardware dealers and the underground economy to achieve its P4-billion collection target.
“The pandemic has affected our collection efforts but we have been spearheading a massive information drive and tax enforcement campaigns to reach our goal,” said Isabela Revenue District Officer Stimson Cureg on Friday (Jan. 29). Rice millers and warehouse operators are at the top of the tax collection efforts.
Online sellers are also being eyed. Cureg urged them to legitimize their operations by registering their businesses.
“The government needs revenue to continue its programs and projects this year,” after it used the budget to combat the coronavirus and livelihood grants for people who endured quarantines for most of 2020, he said.
