More than 2k new cases raise PH Covid tally to 523,516

MANILA, Philippines — The new coronavirus disease sickened 2,109 more people in the Philippines, increasing the total virus infections to 523,516, The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Saturday.

The DOH said that are 36,943 active cases of the severe respiratory disease, which is 7.1 percent of the total Covid-19 cases.

Of the total active cases, 85.2 percent are mild cases, 9.7 percent are those with no symptoms, 2.6 percent are critical cases, and 2.1 percent are severe cases.

Meanwhile, 146 more people recovered from the disease while 71 more patients died of the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. This brought the total number of recoveries and deaths to 475,904 and 10,669, respectively.

The DOH said six duplicated cases, including two recoveries and two deaths, were scrapped from the total case count.

Five recoveries were reclassified as deaths, added the DOH.

One year since the first Covid-19 case was reported in the country, community quarantine remains imposed nationwide.

Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Regions and six other areas will be placed under general community quarantine next month.

To date, Philippines has 17 cases of the B.1.1.7. variant of the new coronavirus.
