Ex-cop killed in Sorsogon shooting
LEGAZPI CITY — A former police officer was shot dead in Casiguran town, in Sorsogon province following a heated argument with a drinking buddy on Thursday.
Police Colonel Arturo Brual Jr., director of Sorsogon police, identified the victim as Edwin Estavillo, 51, a resident of Barangay (village) Central in Casiguran.
Brual said in a report that Estavillo was having a drinking session inside a hut in Barangay Simal-ot with several of his friends at 1:40 p.m. when it turned into a heated argument with one of them, identified as Roberto Hapin, 55.
Hapin then shot Estavillo on the head and body, killing him on the spot.
The suspect fled after the incident but was arrested in a pursuit operation by the Casiguran police.
Police recovered a caliber .45 pistol from Hapin.
Article continues after this advertisementEstavillo was formerly assigned at the Police’s 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company in Sorsoson but was dismissed from service in 2011 for grave misconduct, the report said.
