Northern Samar town school principal arrested for unlicensed gun, bullets, grenade

TACLOBAN CITY—A public school principal in Rosario town, Northern Samar province faces criminal charges following his arrest on Wednesday (Jan. 27) for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and a hand grenade.

The arrest of Nestor Ada, 55, and principal of the Rosario National High School, was ordered by a court.

Seized from him were a Colt Defender Series 80 . 45 caliber pistol, a magazine, four bullets and one hand grenade.

Col. Arnel Apud, Northern Samar police chief, said Ada’s arrest was part of the police’s campaign against unlicensed firearms.

In a statement, he appealed to the public to turn over unlicensed firearms to police or secure licenses to possess guns. “Otherwise we will be compelled to apply for a search warrant against anybody,” he said.

Ada is now detained at the police provincial headquarters.
