LUCENA CITY –– Two more coronavirus disease patients died in Quezon province, bringing the COVID-19 death in this Southern Tagalog locality since the pandemic was declared in March last year to 219, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) said in its 10 a.m. report on Thursday, Jan. 28.
The health office disclosed that a validated COVID-19 patient in Lucban town died Thursday. No other details on the victim were provided.
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, the IPHO recorded the death of a patient in Tayabas City. The local government identified the fatality as a 54-year-old man, who was symptomatic and with other illnesses.
The total number of CoVID-19 fatalities this month in Quezon jumped to 32.
As of Thursday, Quezon, which is under modified general community quarantine, logged a total of 6,859 Covid-19 cases and 6,264 recoveries.
The province has 376 remaining active virus carriers.
Candelaria has dislodged Lucena City as the town in the province with the highest number of active carriers.
The IPHO report showed that Candelaria has 64 active COVID-19 cases after the town recorded 13 new patients on Wednesday and Thursday.
Lucena has 60 active virus carriers with five newly validated cases on Wednesday, Jan. 27, and zero on Thursday.
It is the first time that the capital of the province placed second in the daily tally of active cases since the World Health Organization declared the pandemic in March last year.
But Lucena still has the most number of total cases in the province at 1,515, with 1,402 recoveries and 53 fatalities.
Candelaria logged a total of 519 COVID-19 cases with 440 recoveries and 15 fatalities.
Seventeen of the 41 towns in the province are now considered virus-free as they no longer have any active cases as of Thursday.
Those previously infected in these localities have either recovered or had died, the report showed.
