‘I’m very sorry’: Sinas appears in Senate hearing after absence irks senators

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Debold Sinas appeared before a Senate hearing into the spate of killings in the country after his initial absence frustrated several senators.

As the hearing tackled riding-in-tandem killings, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa alerted Senator Richard Gordon, who is leading the hearing, that Sinas has already logged in online together with his command group.

“Thank you very much. Pasensya na and I’m very sorry hindi po ako agad nakapag-online, sana maintindihan niyo po kami, Sir. Mabuhay po kayo,” Sinas told Gordon.

(I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to come online immediately, I hope you understand sir.)

At the beginning of the hearing, Gordon scored Sinas after he was informed that the PNP chief’s office had not replied to the committee’s invitation to the hearing.

Instead, Police Maj. Gen. Marni Marcos Jr., director of the PNP Investigation and Detective Management, was sent to represent Sinas in the hearing.
