MANILA, Philippines — One of the workers at the MRT-3 depot in Quezon City has succumbed to Covid-19, an official of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) confirmed on Thursday.
The fatality, according to DOTr Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan, is one of the 36 personnel at the depot who tested positive for the disease.
“Sa kasamaang palad po at nalulungkot po tayo na isa po sa ating mga kasamahan na tinamaan ng Covid-19 ay nag-ano po noong Monday, ito pong earlier this week lang,” he said in an interview with ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo when asked about the reported death of a depot worker at the rail line.

On Wednesday night, the DOTr announced that 36 office personnel of the MRT-3 depot and six personnel from the railway’s maintenance service provider Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries had tested positive for Covid-19.
“Meanwhile, there remains zero (0) reported COVID-19 cases among MRT-3 stations personnel,” the department said in a statement.
All personnel who have tested positive for Covid-19 are already undergoing quarantine, according to DOTr.
The DOTr also said that MRT-3 depot office personnel have shifted to a work from home arrangement as of last week, with only a limited number of essential office personnel reporting physically at work after obtaining a negative swab test result.
