THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) stopped the 9-game win streak of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) last Wednesday, beating the latter, 68-65 to win the championship of the Wednesday Club-2012 basketball tournament at the Capitol Parish gym.
Both teams ended the first quarter tied at 18-all but Comelec outscored PICPA in the second, 15-11 to take a four-point cushion at the half, 33-29.
Comelec then uncorked a, 20-12 bomb in the third to erect a commanding 12-point lead, 53-41. However, PICPA saved its best for last and outscored Comelec, 24-15 in the fourth but still fell short of snatching the victory by a mere three points, 65-68.
Michael Sarno and Jojo Rodriguez powered Comelec with 15 and 13 points, respectively with huge support from Flory Del Rosario who added 12 markers. Kim Valenzuela and Edlen Endrina paced PICPA with 20 and 11 points, respectively, while Andre Tocao and Jacon Bonsucan added 10 points apiece.
