LUCENA CITY –– The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) death toll in Quezon province has risen to 217, with the death of three more patients since Jan. 23, authorities reported Tuesday.
Records from the Integrated Provincial Health Office as of 10 a.m. of Jan. 26 listed the death of two COVID-19 patients in Lopez town on Sunday and Tuesday.
On Jan. 23, another validated virus carrier in Sariaya town was included in the fatality list. Lucena City, the provincial capital, has the most number of fatalities, with 53.
The COVID-19 death toll this month in Quezon jumped to 30.
Quezon, which is under modified general community quarantine, has recorded 6,809 COVID-19 cases and 6,227 recoveries since the pandemic was declared in early March last year.
The health office said at least 365 people were still sick with the respiratory illness.
At least 16 of the 41 municipalities in Quezon province no longer have any active COVID-19 cases.
Those previously infected in the localities have either recovered or died, the report shows.
