BACOLOD CITY –– Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia expressed willingness to be vaccinated amid fears from some sectors about the safety of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines.
Lacson said he would volunteer to be vaccinated if it would help encourage Negrenses.
“Pope Francis, who has been vaccinated, said it is our moral duty to protect ourselves as we protect others,” he said.
“I’m willing to take the same vaccine the pope had, and I think it was AstraZeneca,” he added.
Leonardia said he too wanted to be vaccinated after he is cleared by his doctor.
“The vaccines are very important. COVID is more dangerous than the vaccine,” he said.
Negros Occidental and Bacolod City have signed advanced purchase agreements for AstraZeneca vaccines.
