MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) will not allow “intellectual prostitution” and vowed to probe reports of teachers supposedly buying ready-made research needed for their promotion, instead of doing their own, a DepEd official said Tuesday.

Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio urged the public to relay to DepEd information on these incidents to hasten the investigation.

(What’s clear is that Secretary Liling who is a researcher and a professor will not allow that some sectors of the society will be treated as intellectual prostitutes.)

Earlier, Senate committee on basic education Sherwin Gatchalian urged the DepEd to look into the practice of teachers allegedly buying research to aid them in furthering their studies.

Gatchalian stressed that this “unethical” practice should never be tolerated.
