MANILA, Philippines — “Saksakin na lang ninyo. Huwag mo barilin kasi maingay.”
(Just stab them. Don’t shoot them because it is noisy.)
This is what President Rodrigo Duterte said in a recorded speech on Monday on what to do with people who will use his name and the names of Cabinet members to bag government contracts and commit corruption.
He described these people as “parasites” who thrive on the gullible and naive people to make business.
The President called on the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to “double their time” in apprehending these people and bring them to Malacañang so that he could talk to them.
“Lahat sa NBI pati police, sa lahat ng mahuli ninyo sa mga ganun, dalhin ninyo sa opisina ko, gusto ko lang sila kausapin, gusto ko sila makausap bakit ganyan ang hanap-buhay ninyo. Kasi lokohan eh,” he said.
(To all NBI and police, bring those who you will apprehend to my office, I just want to talk to them and ask them why they chose such as a source of income.)
