Man killed in fall from 5th floor

MANILA, Philippines–A 37-year-old scavenger died after he lost his balance and fell from the fifth floor of a tenement building in Manila on Wednesday night.

Before his fall, Joselito Garcia, a resident of Building 22,

Permanent Housing in Balut, Tondo, had been seated beside the railings of the corridor on the fifth floor, having drinks with his half-brother Roger Lumpero and several neighbors who were playing pool.

PO3 Alonzo Layugan of the Manila Police District homicide section said the victim suddenly lost his balance, toppled over the railings and fell to his death.

His friends went to his aid but Garcia died of his injuries which included a shattered skull and fractured bones.

Garcia’s body was brought to a funeral home for autopsy and safekeeping.
