27 volcanic tremors recorded around Mt. Mayon in 24 hours
LIGAO CITY – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded another 27 volcanic earthquakes around Mayon Volcano two days after its summit was seen glowing again on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
In Saturday’s bulletin, Phivolcs said the tremors happened during the 24-hour observation period between Friday and Saturday.
With Mt Mayon’s abnormal status, a total of 61 tremors were registered since January 1.
“The volcanic earthquakes happening in Mayon have stopped as of presstime but we are still closely monitoring and currently analyzing and so far its not looking like related to magma,” Dr. Paul Karson Alanis, senior science research specialist and officer in charge of Mayon Volcano Observatory Station at Ligñon Hill in Legazpi City, said.
Aside from volcanic earthquakes, faint crater glow at the summit was captured by Phivolcs on January 6, 18 and 20.
Alert level 1 status is still in effect over the volcano.
