MANILA, Philippines — Residents of Central Luzon down to Mindanao can expect warmer weather over the weekend as state meteorologists pointed out on Friday afternoon that the northeast monsoon and the tail end of a frontal system are both weakening.

Updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that only Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and the Cordillera Administrative Region would experience cloudy skies, as these are still affected by the northeast monsoon and the low pressure area (LPA) west of Luzon.

The LPA was last spotted 280 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales, and may cause occasional rains over the Ilocos Region in the coming hours.

But for the rest of Luzon, Pagasa said that weather can even be humid also because the tail end of a frontal system does not have much of an effect recently.

Temperatures are also expected to warm up, with Metro Manila, Legazpi, and Puerto Princesa going back to the 25 to 31 degrees Celsius range, while Tagaytay can expect around 22 to 29 degrees.

It would be slightly colder up north as Tuguegarao and Laoag temperatures may play around 23 to 29 degrees Celsius, and 15 to 23 degrees for Baguio City.

“So makikita natin nga rito sa may Southern Luzon area ay nakikita natin na magkakaroon ng medyo maalinsangang panahon […] Samantala dahan-dahan nang iinit itong Ilocos Region at Cagayan Valley,” weather specialist Raymond Ordinario said.

(So we can see that the southern portions of Luzon will experience a slightly warm and humid weather, while Ilocos Region and Cagayan Valley would start to gradually warm up.)

Similar warm conditions will also prevail over Visayas and Mindanao, with temperatures returning to 25 to 31 degrees Celsius in Cebu, Iloilo, and Davao; 24 to 31 degrees in Tacloban; 23 to 32 degrees in Zamboanga, and 23 to 31 degrees in Cagayan de Oro.

Despite the highly likely warm weather, Pagasa still noted that scattered rain showers due to isolated thunderstorms and cloud clusters may still occur especially by afternoon and night.

The state weather bureau said that the fair weather conditions may continue until Monday, until the northeast monsoon gathers up strength again by Tuesday.
