Eastern Samar counting people who would need coronavirus vaccines

BORONGAN CITY—The provincial government of Eastern Samar has launched a list-up campaign for those who would want to get inoculated with coronavirus vaccines.

Teams from 22 towns of the province and Borongan City had been deployed to every village starting this week.

The province launched the campaign to determine the exact doses of vaccines that would be procured.

Provincial legislators have also approved the request of Eastern Samar Gov. Ben Evardone to pass a resolution allowing him to sign a non-disclosure agreement with Astrazeneca Pharmaceuticals, one of several vaccine manufacturers being eyed in the Philippines.

“It does not mean that we will already start purchasing vaccines from AstraZeneca. The resolution was only for legal purposes while the governor negotiates with AstraZeneca,” Evardone said.

“It still comes down to the order of the national government on which vaccines to use,” he said. “I assure the public that our government will only purchase vaccines that are safe, and approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration),” he added.
