MANILA, Philippines — Four alleged kidnappers, who reportedly abducted a Chinese, died in a gun battle with police officers in Barangay Holy Spirit, Quezon City early Friday morning, police said.

In a statement, Quezon City Police District director Police Brigadier General Danilo Macerin said the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) and city police department personnel launched a hot pursuit operation against four suspects, who are still unidentified.

The police went to the hideout of the four suspects located along Sta. Maria Extension, where the suspects supposedly opened fire against the lawmen. The operatives retaliated, killing the alleged kidnappers.

The responding policemen also rescued the Chinese victim identified as Zhi Fu after the shootout, police said.

Recovered were two M16 rifles, a pistol, revolver, two hand grenades, a motorcycle without plate number, black Toyota Vios, two cellphones, two sachets of crystal meth, and several fired cartridges, and bullets.

The operation was carried out after Zhi’s friend Li Cheng sought for police assistance after the victim was supposedly kidnapped by four men on Thursday, at 10:30 p.m. Li said the kidnappers demanded P20 million from Zhi’s family in exchange for the victim’s freedom.

PNP-AKG and Quezon City police were able to find the suspects’ hideout after they used a social media application to track down Zhi’s phone location.
