DOTr to public: Beware of infra projects fund solicitation scam

DOTr on heightened alert for opening of classes on June 3

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Transportation (DOTr) warned the public on Friday to watch out for a certain individual who is allegedly using the government’s infrastructure projects to solicit funds.

The DOTr said it received reports that said a certain John Petalcorin, who identifies himself as representing a company Infratechnik, is allegedly claiming that his company handles several China-funded projects, including the Subic-Clark railway project.

The agency said Petalcorin allegedly solicits funds from contractors to finance the construction of the said project.

“Please be informed that the DOTr does not authorize individuals/groups to solicit in any form from the public for any purpose, and strongly condemns such acts,” the department said in an advisory.

The DOTr said it is closely monitoring with proper authorities to address the reports they received, and “if warranted, to hold Mr. Petalcorin, and other individuals involved, liable to the full extent of the law.”

The agency likewise urged the public to be vigilant and to report to appropriate authorities any suspicious individual who engages in any activity that involves the use of the name of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade or any DOTr officials and projects, or claims to act on behalf of the DOTr and its attached agencies.

The public may contact the Office of the Secretary, or the DOTr Public Assistance and Action Center through the DOTr Facebook page for complaints and reports.

Reports may also be sent through email to publicassistance@dotr.gov.ph or through call at 8790-8300 local 362.
