TACLOBAN CITY—The mayor of Hernani town, Eastern Samar province has tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
Mayor Amado Candido, 61, appealed to his constituents not to worry as he will continue to discharge his duties as mayor.
Candido, who is serving his first term in office, and his wife are the latest to be infected with coronavirus in Hernani.
Hernani town has 20 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic.
Candido said he was grateful that many of his constituents are praying for his immediate recovery.
He reminded people to strictly heed health protocols like wearing masks and face shields, social distancing and regular washing of hands or using alcohol or sanitizers.
Employees of the municipal hall, particularly those working at the mayor’s office, were placed on quarantine.
The entire municipal hall and the local government’s service vehicles were disinfected on Wednesday night.
