MANILA, Philippines — Most areas in the country can expect improving weather conditions starting Friday as the low-pressure area (LPA) has crossed the Luzon landmass and is moving farther away, over waters north of Palawan
Weather reports from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration on Thursday said that the LPA is already 190 kilometers west of Puerto Princesa City in Palawan. It is not expected to develop into a tropical depression and may dissipate soon.
Metro Manila, parts of Central Luzon and Southern Luzon and Bicol Region will have generally fair weather after the LPA brought moderate to heavy rains in these areas.
However, Pagasa warned that the eastern parts of Northern and Central Luzon are still affected by the tail end of a frontal system. Moderate to heavy and occasional rains are expected over Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, and parts of Quezon province.
The state weather bureau added that flash floods and landslides may occur in areas affected by a frontal system’s tail end.
Meanwhile, Pagasa is still monitoring cloud clusters off Luzon’s eastern seas, as this may develop into a new circulation.
Temperatures would remain slightly warmer because of a weaker northeast monsoon or Amihan, as Metro Manila may have something around 24 to 30 degrees Celsius, Tuguegarao with 24 to 31 degrees, Tagaytay with 22 to 29 degrees, Legazpi with 25 to 31 degrees, and Puerto Princesa with 25 to 30 degrees.
Pagasa said that temperatures may start dropping again by Sunday or Monday as the Amihan regains strength and blows cold winds from the northern hemisphere.
Fairer weather is also expected over Visayas and Mindanao, as Cebu is seen to have temperatures from 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, 25 to 31 degrees for Iloilo, 23 to 31 degrees for Tacloban and Cagayan de Oro, 24 to 32 degrees for Davao, and 23 to 32 degrees for Zamboanga.
Gale warnings are still in place – but only for the waters of Ilocos Norte, Batanes, and Cagayan, including the Babuyan Islands – still due to the slightly weakened Amihan and the LPA’s movement away from the country.
