CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga –– At least 22 police personnel in Central Luzon have active coronavirus disease (COVID-19), prompting authorities to order the daily disinfection of camps and offices in the region.
In a statement, Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, Central Luzon regional police director, said on Tuesday, Jan. 19, that the daily disinfection aimed to help the police avoid contracting the new strain of the virus.
As of Tuesday, the regional police force recorded 353 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in March last year.
No policeman in the region has died from the virus, while 331 have recovered from it, the regional police health service said. Most of them got the virus while on field duty.
“We always say ‘prevention is better than cure’, [which] is why we have to maximize our efforts in finding ways and means to fight this invisible foe as we cannot afford to lose to COVID-19,” De Leon said.
