TACLOBAN CITY—A town in Leyte would suspend civil marriages amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Inopacan Mayor Azucena Mirambel, in an advisory, said the municipal hall would be closed starting on Monday (Jan. 18) until Wednesday (Jan. 20) for disinfection after several employees were found to be direct contacts of an employee who tested positive for SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
Among several measures taken by the municipal government to slow down the spread of COVID-19 cases were a prohibition on Masses and other religious gatherings. Private gatherings were also banned.
Inopacan currently has 30 COVID-19 cases with one death, a 75-year-old, last Jan. 13.
The rural health unit in Capoocan, also in Leyte, was also closed indefinitely since Monday after one of its employees tested positive for SARS Cov2.
Another rural health unit in Mayorga town, also in Leyte, was shut down for disinfection and contact tracing after one of its health worker contracted the virus.
