Army says NPA guerrilla captured after clash in Borongan
BORONGAN CITY—Government soldiers arrested an alleged communist guerrilla and seized explosives and firearms after a 30-minute clash at a village here on Sunday (Jan. 17).
The 78th Infantry Warriors Battalion identified the arrested rebel suspect as Bienvenido Abagancia, resident of Layo Pinabacdao in Samar province.
The military seized four homemade bombs, a homemade rifle, a homemade .38 caliber revolver, 16 M-16 magazines, an M-14 magazine, ammunition, backpacks and personal belongings.
Lt. Col Alvior, commander of the Philippine National Army 78th IB, lauded residents for their help in locating rebel positions.
Alvior appealed to members of New People’s Army (NPA) to surrender and grab an offer of livelihood and other funds from the national government.
