10-day ECQ eyed in Tuguegarao City to check swelling COVID-19 cases

TUGUEGARAO CITY –– A 10-day enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) is being considered here following a surge in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, Mayor Jefferson Soriano said on Monday, Jan. 18.

Soriano said the proposal had been submitted to the regional inter-agency task force as the city’s active COVID-19 cases rose to 246 on Monday.

The latest infections were traced to 30 villages, where local and community transmissions have been observed.

Health officials said the surge could be due to holiday and post-holiday infections.

If approved by the task force, the ECQ could begin on Jan. 20 and might be extended for another five days depending on the escalation of virus infections in the city.

Gov. Manuel Mamba has also approved Soriano’s recommendation for a stricter quarantine.

Mamba said 500 bags of rice would be given to affected villagers.
